The Light Seed

When was the last time you looked at an oak tree, I mean really looked at one? Depending on the height of the tree or how big around its trunk is may give some indication as to how long the tree has been in existence. At one point this mighty oak tree was a small seemingly insignificant acorn. You can pick up an acorn from off of the ground and toss it back down again never really giving any thought to the potential that lies within it. Nor do we usually give much if any thought to the amount of time necessary for the potential within the acorn to become that mighty oak tree growing close to where you live. Most of the time we only think about the part of the oak tree that we see above the ground. However, within that acorn is also the potential root system that serves as the tree’s foundation that also sustains it with nutrients. When you think about it, the acorn, though very small, is a tremendously significant and essential part that makes the oak tree what it is.

Please keep in mind the picture of the oak tree as I offer in this blog entry a different kind of seed that too needed time to germinate and grow. In the Genesis account of creation written in the first couple of chapters in the Bible, it is recorded that God said, “Let there be light.” The light spoken of here is not the sun. According to the creation story, the sun came into being on the fourth day of creation. Our sun is a star and there are now billions upon billions of stars throughout the universe but what I hold up for you to consider is the possibility of what was planted, so to speak, when the “big bang” occurred billions of years ago that science held as theory but recently is now embracing as fact. 

What if the light that God spoke into being was the seed potential that when given enough time to germinate, sprout and grow would in essence be the universe that is still unfolding. Our physical bodies are made up of various elements that come from the stars that have exploded at the end of their life cycle sending out into space their remnants. Without those elements our human bodies would not be made like they are. At the time of the universe’s beginning stars did not exist but their potential was present. With regard to the oak tree, the same is true that the oak tree’s trunk did not exist when the acorn was first introduced into the soil but the potential was very present. 

The idea that you and I are made in the image and likeness of the God that said, “Let there be light” is an indication that we are light beings just like God’s only begotten Son. Jesus is the first born among many brothers and sisters. As the universe continues to unfold so do we. Our potential that came from the Light Seed planted billions of years ago housed each one of us within it. As it unfolded and it became time for our potential to be recognized on earth, just like the planting of the light, we made our physical entrance housed within bodies that consist of elements that came from the germination of the light.

This Light dwells within each one of us. Not only does this Light dwell within us, we are made from this Light. We are becoming and will continue to discover the various possibilities that will surface as this Light Seed continues to grow. The potential is set free by imagination. So let your Light so shine before everyone and in so doing they will glorify the one that said, “Let there be light!”
