The Awakening
I want to share something with you that I trust you will ponder. I made a discovery regarding the salvation spoken of in the scriptures. Early on in my religious experience I sought to attain salvation because I was told in a Sunday morning sermon that I did not have it and must ask for it in order to receive it. I listened to sermon after sermon and often sought to respond to invitation after invitation to receive this salvation. After my numerous responses to these invitations to receive salvation the assurance I thought I was supposed to experience was short lived. Soon I would be seated in another congregation listening to another Sunday morning sermon being told that I needed to ask for salvation and when this would occur voices within me would suggest that perhaps you did not do it right the last time and you probably needed to walk down another church aisle so you could get it right this time.
It is my understanding that my story is not mine alone. Some of you reading this blog entry may have similar experiences. If so, I truly have some good news for you to consider. I made the discovery that salvation is an awakening. It is an awakening to what already exists within each of us. I know the struggle I had when I first entertained the notion that my salvation in Christ Jesus was not hinged on anything I did or would ever do. Not long ago I believe I had a conversation in my spirit with the Spirit of Christ. The conversation went something like this:
“Do you think redemption would come from a redeemer? I replied, “Yes.” Then I heard this question, “If redemption occurs, who initiates it?” I replied, “The redeemer.” “Then who is responsible for your redemption?” I replied, “It would have to be the redeemer.” “That’s correct, Jesus said. “I, The Redeemer, am responsible for your redemption not you!”
Religion is responsible for telling us that in order to obtain salvation we must receive it by asking Jesus to come into our lives. Please hear me out. We all began in Christ Jesus. There has never been a time when we were not In Christ Jesus. What about all those people that do not believe? They have not yet awakened to the reality that exists within them. Please do not take my word for it. Ask the Holy Spirit regarding what I have raised up for you to consider. The Spirit longs for all of us to awaken to our true selves. When the awakening occurs, you will realize a freedom you have never experienced before. The difficulty for the religious is that they think they are awake when in essence they continue to depend upon their own willpower hoping that their behaviors will prove to themselves that they are pleasing to God. The fact is, you would not exist if you were not pleasing to God. God is Love. You were created In Love and it is this Love that causes our awakening.
