The Ego
This entry is taken from my new understanding of the Ego acquired from A Course In Miracles (ACIM). As I continue to explore this ACIM journey, it is becoming apparent to me that the ego only serves itself. In other words, it will offer only the thoughts that project fear and mis-trust when we encounter Truth. I have dealt with fear most of my life and I did not know why fear was so prominent until I began to investigate its origin. Once again, in ACIM, the major statement of understanding says, "Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God."
Following this line of thinking then would suggest the ego is not real and fear or anything that causes one to feel threatened or made to feel less than does not exist. But that does not mean we cannot embrace fear. If we choose to embrace fear then fear becomes quite real to us. Such thoughts bring to mind certain Bible passages that have given me pause to rethink what was being communicated. For example, in 2 Timothy 1:7 it plainly states, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and of a sound mind." If the ego only serves itself then it occurs to me that self-serving attitudes project falsehoods meaning that the ego can lie to protect itself. If the ego lies to protect itself then what was being shared by Jesus in St. John 8:44 as he spoke to the religious Pharisees, may indicate an understanding when one fails to see Truth. He even tells them that their search of scripture to find life is to no avail while Life was standing right in front of them being Jesus himself.
As I continue this journey it occurs to me that if satan was a liar from the beginning, and I am of the opinion that "satan" is an entity and a way of thinking. It is possible that the ego was being highlighted because of our determination to run from those things that are threatening and cause fear? The Truth is what sets us free! Jesus made it abundantly clear that You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free and if Jesus Christ shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. As I continue to listen to Near Death Experience testimonies, I am becoming more aware that we as humans are eternal beings. We came to this planet to experience a sense of separation that we did not know on the other side of the veil. Once we begin to awaken to our true reality of who we are and where we came from we begin to abandon the lies told to us by the ego. This then brings about the reality of our true selves which is love and then we begin to treat others by reflecting this love to all those we encounter. In doing so we increase the vibration within ourselves which is best described as LIGHT!!!!
