Thoughts of God

The other day I became overwhelmed with the idea that we are thoughts of God. In other words your and my existence somehow becomes reality simply by thoughts of God. Allow me to offer a trite example taken from my baby boomer generation. Every Sunday our family would receive a Sunday Paper that included the Sunday Comics. One of the comics was the famous detective Dick Tracy. One of the identifying traits that separated him from other cops was the radio wristband he wore. This wristband was not only able to communicate an audible radio signal but it also communicated a visual signal. For those of us back in the 1950s this was merely a dream. Advance 70 years and now the iphone provides such technology that we never imagined.

So if God began to think about what it would be like to have beings that would reflect his image and likeness in visible form it makes sense that there had to be a beginning to this effort. John chapter one may be the evidence as we begin thinking about such thoughts. It reads, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was turned toward God.” In other words the Logos was face to face with God in an intimate relationship. John later says that when you go back to the beginning you would find the Word already present with God. In other words, the Word, the Spirit and God always existed together.

The scripture indicates that Jesus Christ is the first born among many brethren. He is also the visible representation of the invisible God. He indicated that if you have seen me you have seen the Father. So what I hold up for you to consider in this blog entry is taken from John 14:6. This passage reads, Jesus is speaking, “I am the way the truth and the life. No man comes unto the Father except by me.” For so long people have tried to lump this scripture with salvation passages indicating that Jesus is the only way to salvation. I’m not so sure that is what is being referred to in this passage. Jesus already told his disciples that if you believe in God believe also in him. If you look ahead to John chapter 16 Jesus’ disciples seem to finally get it that he really is God incarnate.

Perhaps what John 14:6 is indicating, has to do with the part Jesus, or the Word played in our beginning. No man or woman came to the Father’s thoughts except by the Word or Jesus. If Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and he is the first born among many brethren then I hold up for your consideration that this Jesus is so vitally incredible to our existence in visible form that apart from him we would not exist spiritually or physically. As I have said in other entries, don’t take my word for it. Ask the Spirit! She will tell you the Truth!!!!
